
International Swimming Meeting of Monte Carlo hosted in Monaco on the 16-17th of June 2018, this the first step of the Mare Nostrum Swimming Tour. The last competitive day of the Mare Nostrum series in Monaco 2018 did not disappoint as Andrei Govorov nearly broke a world record in the 50m butterfly as he became the second fastest performer in history with his swim. Yasuhiro Koseki, Anastasia Fesikova and Pernille Blume moved to second in the world with their respective swims tonight as well.

Andrey Govorov of the Ukraine nearly broke the world record in the men’s 50 fly on the last night of the Mare Nostrum in Monaco with a 22.53 in the 50m butterfly shootout final. Govorov nearly broke the world record held by Rafael Munoz of Spain at 22.43. Govorov is now second all-time in the event as he tied himself for fourth last night in the quarters at 22.69.

Women’s 200 Breaststroke of Mare Nostrum in Monaco 2018
The last two World Champions in the women’s 200m breaststroke squared off in Monaco on Sunday in the 200 breast final with 2017 champion Yulia Efimova (Russia) pulling away over the back half with a 2:23.80 for the win. 2015 World Swimming Champion Kanako Watanabe led early but finished in second at 2:24.22.
World record holder Rikke Pedersen of Denmark finished in 5-th place with a 2:27.04.

Men’s 200 Backstroke of Mare Nostrum in Monaco 2018
17-year-old Kliment Kolesnikov is one of the best young talents in the world of swimming as he was fourth at World Championships in the 200m backstroke last summer and set the world record in the 100 SCM back in last December in the Salnikov Cup 2017.
Kliment Kolesnikov won the 200 back with a full beard on Sunday at the Mare Nostrum Tournament with a 1:58.59. He was pushed by Martin Binedell of South Africa the whole way as he was second. Kolesnikov swam a 1:55 earlier this year as he is one to watch as we move closer to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Women’s 50 Backstroke of Mare Nostrum in Monaco 2018
Russian swimmer Anastasia Fesikova swam the second fastest 50m backstroke of 2018 as she won the shootout final with a 27.37. Fesikova sits only behind China’s Fu Yuanhui in the world rankings as she was a 27.16 at the Chinese Nationals. Fesikova was also just off her personal best that is a 27.31 she set at the 2009 World Championships in Rome when she swam as Anastasia Zueva.
Anastasia Fesikova won the shootout ahead of Russia’s Maria Kameneva and Finland’s Mimosa Jallow.

Women’s 50 Freestyle of Mare Nostrum in Monaco 2018
Denmark’s Olympic Swimming Champion Pernille Blume swam a very stellar 50m freestyle final in Monaco to close the meet out with a 24.05. Blume moved to second in the world for her swim as it was faster than she swam to win the Olympics in 2016. She was just off her best time of 24.00 from last summer’s World Championships where she was fourth.
Pernille Blume won ahead of a very tired Rikako Ikee of Japan who swam a 25.18.
