Russian swimmer Kolesnikov previously swam a time of 48.99 to win the 100 back at the 2017 European Short Course Swimming Championships last week. He also won the 200 back at that meet and set world junior records in the 50, 100 and 200 backstroke, along with the 50 freestyle. His new world record will also stand as a world junior record.
