3-time Ironman World Champion Daniela Ryf to race Enea IRONMAN 70.3 Gdynia 2018

Daniela Ryf (SUI), a three-time IRONMAN World Champion who dominated the women’s long distance triathlon stage in the recent years, has confirmed she will race Enea IRONMAN 70.3 Gdynia 2018 on August 5. This will be her first appearance in Poland’s sole IRONMAN 70.3 event.

The Swiss is coming off an outstanding performance at Mainova IRONMAN European Championship in Frankfurt where she won with a new course record. Having dominated the female long distance triathlon recently she is certainly the main candidate to get the win in the challenging Enea IRONMAN 70.3 Gdynia.

Yet, she will not be the only IRONMAN legend racing in Poland at the beginning of August as Mirinda ‘Rinny’ Carfrae (AUS) already declared her coming to the Baltic Sea coast several weeks ago, making it a duo of three-time Kona champions racing in Gdynia.

– It is a great privilege and we cannot be more excited to have Daniela and Mirinda on our race. They are both great champions and we look forward to a fantastic race on August 5 – says Michał Drelich, race director. – Women’s triathlon cannot get any better than that. I am convinced this will be a great promotion of the sport of triathlon and may encourage more women here in Poland to take on swimming, cycling and running in the nearest future – he adds.

Diana Riesler (GER) and Lisa Hütthaler (AUT) are former female winners at Enea IRONMAN 70.3 Gdynia. Ryf and Carfrae will also compete against a bunch of the best Polish athletes as the national championships are held at the race too.

In the men’s field, Nils Frommhold (GER) will try to repeat his Gdynia success from 2015 although he will face a tough pro athlete field led by Timothy O’Donnell (USA). Again, a number of Polish pros are coming to the race too with Lukasz Kalaszczynski, Kacper Adam and Maciej Chmura on top of the list.

Enea IRONMAN 70.3 Gdynia will take place on August 5, 2018. Currently, there are 2250 athletes on the starting list of the main competition plus another 1500 registered for the side events. Athletes swim in the Baltic Sea, then take on a challenging, one-loop bike course leading through the picturesque Kashubia region in order to come back to town for the running stage, held on three loops in the city center and along the sea boulevards. Beach finish with a loud cheering crowd is the race’s icing on the cake.
