“In order to legally fish in a particular fishery in Poland, Polish nationals need both a valid fishing rod license and an additional permit. Importantly for visitors and tourists, foreigners do not need a Polish fishing rod license and only a fishing permit to fish in a particular fishery is needed” – explains Andrzej Waszkewicz, Sports Lawyer.
Before fishing it is essential to obtain a rod license and a separate permit of a water authority for the certain area (and sometimes for adjoining areas), which allow the holder to fish. The inland waters are controlled by Polish Angling Association, water-companies, fishermen cooperatives and also by private persons. Foreigners and non-members of Polish Angling Association just pay special fees (one-time payments on the local territory).
